friends behind not knowing if she’ll ever
return home. Homesick and living in a boarding house, Eilis embraces her new life when
she meets and falls in love with Italian immigrant Tony (Emory Cohen). But her happiness
is short-lived and the past comes back to
haunt her when tragedy strikes and she must
return to Ireland, leaving her torn between
two men and two countries.
Nick Hornby (An Education, Wild) wrote
the screenplay, based on an acclaimed novel
by Colm Toíbín. The film generated major
buzz at this year’s Sundance Film Festival,
and praise for Ronan. The film also stars
Domhnall Gleeson, Jim Broadbent and Julie
Walters.
Spectre
As the end of the year approaches, so does
the release of what may ultimately be some of
the most anticipated films of the year. No, the
new Star Wars sequel isn’t out until next
month, but with awards season gearing up
studios tend to bring out their big guns just in
time for nominations. Film fans will see both
critical darlings and popular holiday fare, sure
to draw cinephiles and families to the local
multiplexes over the holiday season.
November showcases a variety of cinematic delights, from the latest James Bond installment and the conclusion of a popular YA fran-
chise, to controversial dramas along side some
animated Pixar dinosaurs. Even those classic
Peanuts characters have finally gotten their
