RINGO STARR Look Up( Lost Highway)
Ringo Starr is no stranger to these waters, having made splashes with Buck Owens“ Act Naturally,” Carl Perkins’“ Honey Don’ t” and“ Matchbox,” and his own“ Don’ t Pass Me By” and“ Octopus’ s Garden”( as well as Lennon / McCartney collaboration“ What Goes On”) for The Beatles. All those songs have made frequent appearances in All-Starr Band set lists. With that in mind, it’ s perhaps surprising that Look Up is Starr’ s first album dedicated to the country music genre since 1970’ s Beaucoups of Blues. A handful of country cred-carrying collaborators include Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, and Larkin Poe. Starr’ s devotion to the cause and mantra of‘ peace and love’ permeates the proceedings, whether it’ s the uptempo rockabilly jangle of“ Breathless,” the shuffling“ Never Let Me Go,” or the twanging“ Thankful”( a duet with Alison Krauss that drips with harmony and weeping pedal steel).“ Good things are gonna come your way,” promises Starr in the title cut.( ringostarr. com)
