COVER STORY:
PANIC! AT THE DISCO
It might have seemed surprising – Panic! at the
Disco bandleader Brendon Urie’s participation on
a recent installment of Jimmy Kimmel Live’s
Mashup Monday segment, wherein he gleefully
belted out a campy rendition of Sisqo’s 1999
“Thong Song” smash alongside Sisqo himself,
under the banner of Panic! at the Sisqo. Urie is
modern music's king of comedy. When it comes to
humor, he’s just not kidding around. Tom Lanham
talked to the toast of Vegas, himself.

HELLO MY NAME IS PETER
On the surface, there’s nothing too mysterious about rock legend Peter Frampton. At 65, the Grammy winner is feeling more
inspired and invigorated than ever, as he deconstruct some of his
catalog chestnuts on his new Acoustic Classics album and corresponding Raw: Acoustic tour, which features his singer/songwriter son Julian as both opening act and part-time backup guitarist. Dig a little deeper, however, and the Brit has quite a curious take to tell, concerning the famous 1954 Les Paul guitar he’s
playing on the cover of his multiplatinum concert document
from 1976, Frampton Comes Alive! Tom Lanham has the story.

NEXT WAVE: CHICAGO'S EMERGING TALENT
Chicago Open Air fest, Record Store countdown, Kesha.
If there is a single constant in Chicago’s modern music scene,
it’s that there isn’t one signature sound. Depending on who you
ask, Chicago is the birthplace of house music. Or it was once synonymous with Wax Trax! and the industrial wave of the ‘80s. Or,
maybe Chicago is the home of a disparate list of superstar acts
like Smashing Pumpkins, R. Kelly, and Wilco, none of whom
sound anything like each other. If you were to ask about Chicago
in 2016, you will likely hear names like Chance The Rapper and
Vic Mensa, both now widely known talents well on their way to
building out their own long-term careers. Jaime Black talks to
some of the best of the new crop of emergining talent. Celine
Neon, Saba, Louis The Child and Knuckle Puck.
