Pablo’s opener, “Ultralight Beam.”
Salvation seems to be on the married,
father of two’s mind much more so than
redemption (he’s not there yet). The Life of
Pablo isn’t an apologetic record, nor
should it be, because West has shown
(arguably more than any other artist) that
he’s human, a bundle of contradictions,
almost to a fault. He’s always been a selfdeprecating artist, in the most ego-driven
way – but now he knows it himself. Pablo
is an 18-track snapshot of a road with
many bumps, winding and exhausting
detours, and moments of clarity.
