nately , we both have studios – I have a studio at my place , and he has a smaller setup to be able to at least come up with demos and things . And so we were able to at least keep working – that was the only upside of the pandemic , the fact that we could keep working .

Blanchett , at the height of her Oscar-nominated “ Tar ” fame , for your title track ’ s video ? RM : We met her at the Cesar Awards in Paris about a year and a half ago , and she was there getting a Lifetime Achievement Award , and we were there being nominated for Best Music for the movie Annette that we had written – which we ultimately won – and she introduced herself and said she was a huge fan of Sparks . And were shocked to hear that because we love her as an actress but had no clue that someone like Cate Blanchett would be into Sparks and all . So we exchanged contact details and kept in touch with her , and when it came time to do the “ Girl is Crying in Her Latte ” video , we were kind of stumped as to what to do . But then we thought , “ Cate Blanchett ! She ’ ll bail us out of this ! If she ’ ll only agree to do it …” So we sent her a note and sent her the song , and she said , “ I love this song ! And I want to do this !” And we said , “ Okay !” And one of

her comments , too , was , she said , “ When I heard the song , I didn ’ t know if I was supposed to cry or laugh about the song .” So she came up with that whole persona of that person dancing like she does , with her headphones on . And we said , “ We ’ ll just stand behind you and do our thing , and you do your thing .” And we did three takes of it , and that was it . And it was really amazing – we thought she did an amazing job .
IE : You and your brother both seem just perpetually unflappable . Is there anything that ever really scared you or fazed you at all ? RM : Well , everybody always has fears about everything . But you put up a brave face , and the only way that you can exist and continue doing stuff is to just plow ahead . Through thick and thin , whatever it takes , you just plow forward if you ’ re passionate about what you ’ re doing . Which we are . So if you ’ re passionate about what you ’ re doing , and doing something that you think is good , and you enjoy it – and hopefully you get some luck and some people respond to what you ’ re doing , too – that helps to keep the thing rolling along . And it ’ s as easy as that !
