And I just developed into the alternate picking, which greatly slowed down my playing. I really have to concentrate on that, but it’s opened up a lot of doors for me. It’s made me be able to do some things that I’d never been able to do before. I’m getting a lot better control, and I hear stuff in my head that I want to play that I couldn’t play when I did "pick harmony" pick- ing. Mosh: New drummer Ken Mary initially joined the band for the 2018 North American tour with Hammerfall, but now he’s a perma- b ki f J Bi h left to join Overkill. He seems to fit right in and supplies some solid drumming on The End of Chaos. What’ does he bring to the band? MG: We hired Ken for the tour to finish up for Jason because we were kind of in a bind after Jason left. When he came in and started rehearsals, we knew that he was the guy for the job. He just annihilated it; he was killer. We asked him to join, and the rest is history. He’s a phenomenal drummer. Listening to some of the stuff that Ken does on the record, he sits back there when he’s playing his drums - he’s a very tame person and very laid back - but once the song starts going, he’s just a monster. It’s incredible to play along with him, his chops are great. june 2019 illinoisentertainer.com 43
