opens the Crossroads stage at 11AM Look
out for his stirring mix of original tunes and
classics..
Innovative
guitarist
and
singer/songwriter Melody Angel performs
at the Rooftop Lounge at 12:15PM. An evoca-
tive singer and songwriter, Melody offers an
exciting perceptive to the local scene. Texas
blues queen Diunna Greenleaf will most
likely rip the Crossroads stage up during her
2:45PM show. The winner of the Koko
Taylor Award at the Blues Foundation
Awards last year, Diunna “sangs” with soul
and a healthy dose of her gospel roots. Teen
blues sensation Cristone ‘Kingfish” Ingram
also performs at the Crossroads at 1:30PM. A
native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, he seems
to have absorbed all of the region’s blues his-
tory and belts it out like someone four times
his age. At 4PM, blues icon Joe Louis
Walkers graces the stage. A powerhouse gui-
tarist and singer, Joe delivers contemporary
blues with an edge.
At the Pritzker Pavilion, Oakland musi-
cian Fantastic Negrito performs his brand of
blues “with a punk attitude” at 5:30PM.
Louisiana born Kenny Neal offers up his sig-
nature modern swamp blues at 6:45PM and
R&B and gospel legend Mavis Staples closes
the fest, hopefully with tracks from her new,
Jeff Tweedy produced CD, If All I Was Was
Black.
