ongtime RANGER STUDIOS co-
owner Mike Jones passed away in
early May. Jones was one of the "nice
guys" of the Chicago music business, who
supplied backline and ran sound and lights
for thousands of bands. His pride and joy
was his recording studio and rehearsal facil-
ity Ranger Studios in Franklin Park. Jones
was one of the "early adopters" in the
rehearsal business, realizing bands needed
rehearsal space in a central location in the
area as the suburban population grew. The
facility will remain open under the guid-
ance of of Lou Cutaia, Eddie Jakovec, and
Mike Narvaez, who have revamped the
building over the last 16 months.
STROBE RECORDING's Jamie Wagner
recently announced the closing of the facili-
ty in Humboldt Park. "It is with much delib-
eration and a feeling of loss, I announce that
I will be closing Strobe Recording on July
1st. I just want to say a big THANK YOU to
all the musicians, engineers, assistants,
clients and guests who helped make Strobe
one of Chicago’s best recording studios for
over 14 years."
