COVER STORY:
MEGADETH
Megadeth's Dave Mustaine who, after playing
Big Four concerts around the world with his
thrash-metal compadres Anthrax, Slayer, and of
course Metallica, penned his autobiography,
Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir -- treasures that
hard-won Grammy. But the kudo he loves the
most is the Genesis Award, presented to him in
1993 by Doris Day for raising animal-rights aware-
ness via Megadeth’s aptly-titled Countdown to
Extinction album that year. Tom Lanham talked to
the multi-talented vocalist about politics, life-les-
sons and moving his family to Nashville.
HELLO MY NAME IS...ALI CAMPBELL
06
It was a pop-cultural inevitability. Arguably, one of the most
definitive numbers from British reggae outfit UB40 is “Red Red
Wine,” its lilting cover of the old Neil Diamond chestnut from its
chart-topping 1983 covers disc, Labour of Love. Both abroad and in
America, the infectious track helped to break the band, which went
on to sell over 70 million albums, to date. And now, three decades
on, the group recently teamed with Eminent Life vintners in
England to introduce its own official Red Red Wine UB40, a
Bordeaux Superieur that – according to frontman Ali Campbell – is
as pleasing to the palate as the song that inspired it. Tom Lanham
talked to the co-founding UB40 frontman about the battling with
his brothers over the band's name name and legacy.

DIRGE WITHIN
34
Chicago-based Dirge Within is making a surprise comeback
after a four-year hiatus, with a reunion show August 5th at Route
20 Outhouse. Following their acrimonius 2012 split, versatile vocal-
ist Jeremy “Jerms” Genske and the rest of the band – which
includes guitarist Shaun Glass, drummer Frankie Harchut, bassist
Mike Sylvester and guitarist Chuck Wepfer — formed The
Bloodline with singer Travis Neal and recorded one album during
their four-year existence. Rechristened as Dirge Within earlier this
year, the band is back and feeling better than ever and are anxious
to record new material and play some shows. Kelly Simms talked
to guitarist Shaun Glass.
