COVER STORY:
VERUCA SALT
Veruca Salt burst on the scene in 1994 with
their inescapable alt-rock anthem "Seether." Part of
the "Next Seattle" batch of '90s Chicago acts, the
band's brash and bratty power punk and dual
female vocals quickly set them apart, gaining the
act national exposure on rock radio and MTV. A
bitter break-up came 5 years later. Today the original line-up of VS is back together again. Jaime
Black talked to co-founders Nina and Louise and
found out how it all went down.

HELLO MY NAME IS NATE
The summer's hottest concert ticket (Fare Thee Well) bares the
name of a band that has been in existence for 50 years yet hasn’t
played a note in almost two decades. So when the Grateful Dead
announced a meager 3 reunion shows in Chicago, the response was
an avalanche of interest. 200,000 or so tickets for the band’s performances disappeared in the blink of an eye. Enter Nate Parienti,
the President at Live Alliance, a company that produces live PayPer-View broadcasts of concerts around the globe. Nate talked to
Curt Baran about The Dead's unique, upcoming PPV experience.

HELLO MY NAME IS BRIAN
Star Bar invades the Southside, Muddy from Westmont.
To say Brian Wilson is a man of few words is a massive
understatement. This interview, which included nearly 30 questions, was completed in a mere 13 minutes, not because of any
disinterest on Wilson’s part but due to his preference to give very
short and simple answers. Short answers from a musical genius
who casts such a long musical shadow on our modern civilization seems like little to endure when you think of who is speaking into the microphone. He has created some of the greatest pop
discs of all time, including The Beach Boys’ 1966 classic, Pet
Sounds, which many industry insiders consider the greatest rock
album of all time. Bruce Pilato talked to Mr. Wilson.

SLAYER
Not long ago, Slayer co-founder Kerry King had a day off on
the southern shore of Lake Erie. Don't call it a vacation. Typically,
when killing time in those hardscrabble stretches of the United
States that still favor thrash metal, the 51-year-old SoCal native
does what comes naturally: sleep until 4 p.m., read reviews of
local steakhouses, maybe talk to Illinois Entertainer about
Cleveland. For kicks, the day off would be a break from old routine. He'd wake up early enough to see how badly the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame Museum butchered the Metallica exhibit. A
diehard fan in the early days, circa No Life 'Til Leather, when
Dave Mustaine was Metallica's lead guitarist, King played second guitar at Megadeth's first five shows. The dude knows his
artifacts. IE's Mike Meyer returns this month with a gripping
interview with the metal legend.
