after all the lawsuits between Mike and Al and you and Mike, that you guys could put the bad blood aside and make music again. In retrospect, would you say it was successful? BW: Oh yeah, it went well. It was like 72 concerts. It was a good tour. IE: Were you upset that Mike Love did not want it to continue and you all went back to touring separately in various combinations? BW: Not really. We wound up on the reunion tour and we realized that it would Smile. right? IE: Not necessarily, any of the various periods of the Beach Boys, really, is what I am asking about… BW: No, not really. IE: The Beach Boys are still a functioning corporation, right? Are you still involved? Do you go to board meetings about the future of the band and its brand? BW: No, that is taken care of for me by someone else. That’s not my trip. 07•2015 probably be the last time we would work together. IE: Why is that? BW: Well, I like touring by myself. I had a good time on the reunion tour and recording but I think it will likely be the last time we work together again. IE: On this album there were really 2 kinds of songs: upbeat, pop songs like “Tell Me Why,” and stuff that was a little more esoteric, and spacey, as with “Our Special Love.” It almost seems like you were making two different records. Were you? BW: Well I planned it that way. I learned a lot from The Beatles, about music. I did the job in the studio with the guy who helped me with the music; then we did the voices. I had a mellow feeling in the studio so some of the music had that feel to it, which is what I was feeling. IE: Are there any recordings lying around in the Beach Boys archives that feature Dennis and Carl that we still haven’t heard? Is there a chance of something like The Beatles did with Anthology where a lot of rare outtakes finally surfaced? BW: No, not really. You are talking about IE: What can we expect to hear on the upcoming tour? A lot of Beach Boys classics? How much material from No Pier Pressure? BW: We do a lot of The Beach Boys classics, and some material from this new album, but not the ones that the guest artists sang. IE: So is it possible there could ever be another proper Beach Boys studio album again?
