And we were like , “ Whoa . What is going on here ?” Which is why I was so grateful that when we just did the Parade again a few weeks ago that it was not that cold — it was a beautiful , sunny day , and we were on the Lego float doing “ Moneymaker ,” and the Lego float ? It ’ s top dog . I couldn ’ t have gotten any more brownie points with my three boys .
But just being behind the scenes , watching all
your graduation ? You didn ’ t get to chase after your dreams or the love of your life or whatever ? It ’ s like , This is the time . The world is back . We ’ re all learning to live with Covid — it ’ s not going anywhere — so let ’ s live life to the fullest again , you know ? So this record , for me , was really trying to create a through line through all of our five albums , going all the way back to “ Picking Up the Pieces ,”

the floats line up , watching all the marching bands line up ? It was great . And we had to be there at 8:00 a . m ., which is way easier than doing ** Good Morning America ! And when you ’ re looking at all these floats , you ’ re like , “ Oh . This thing is literally just being pulled by a truck !” But it was such a fun day , and the last thing you do is the TV part , which is when the parade finally arrives in front of Macy ’ s , and you ’ re on the camera , and they air it . And then they drive ten more feet , and they say , “ Get off !”
IE : So this band album , then , is like a bright , buoyant explosion for you , then ? MFF : Absolutely . The title was a direct response to the last few years of being cooped up for everyone . It ’ s like , You missed that wedding ? You missed
and trying to really pull some of the influences from all those records and create a really cohesive album . Which is why there are a lot of Motown references on this record , which we haven ’ t done in quite a while . And “ Silver Platter ” is one of my favorite songs on the record — it ’ s kind of warbly and sounds old and vintage-y , but then it has a little bit of a modern twist because some of the melodies are definitely not vintage . And then I get to the chorus , and I ’ m just straight crooner vibes , and that ’ s where my voice shines the best . And it ’ s so much fun to sing .
