no [think] longer of a job, or healthcare, or
education, or housing. So that’s where we
are at the moment, and until we get candi-
dates that offer genuine change, that’s
what will happen. And my evidence for
that is the popular vote for Jeremy Corbyn
and Bernie Sanders – neither of those guys
should get anywhere near leadership or
victory, but Sanders did it in the States and
Corbyn did it in the UK. Not only did
Corbyn become leader of the Labour
an extent that the bodies of people who
disappeared 75 years ago are reappearing.
A pair of hobnail boots appear out of the
snow, and it’s somebody who went to get
the cows in back in 1948. And this is not
something that’s going to happen – it is
happening. And the last time the Earth
was four degrees warmer than it is now,
all of the ice at both poles melted, and the
sea was 80 meters deeper than it is now. I
live on the coast, and we’re probably 15

party, he blunted the Tories’ majority in
the recent election. So in America people
still want change, but I don’t think the
Democratic party is willing to recognize
that yet, which is a real problem.
IE: Meanwhile, the other party denies the
existence of climate change, as hurricanes
and wildfires tear the country apart annu-
ally.
BB: Yeah. And the same thing’s happening
in the UK, as well. The rains are getting
heavier, the tides are getting higher. And
the problem is, the thing that the right
most complain about – immigration – is
only going to be exacerbated by climate
change. When people can no longer live in
one particular place, they’ve got to go
somewhere, so it’s ridiculous that they
don’t make that an issue. I mean, how
many wake-up calls do you need? The
evidence is there already – in Europe, in
the high Alps, the snow is melting to such
meters above sea level right now. But at
least California is trying to do something
about it. And also, in my country, renew-
ables just became cheaper than nuclear
power. So things are moving in a good
direction. And for all the ridiculousness of
Trump and his tweets, there’s very little
executive power behind those things.
IE: Is everybody corrupt now, or what?
BB: Listen, man – the enemy of all of us
who want to make the world a better
place is not capitalism or Conservatism.
It’s cynicism. Fox News wants you to
believe that no one gives a sit about this
stuff, that nothing will ever change, that
you’re just wasting your time. So the chal-
lenge for those of us who want to make
the world a better place is to overcome our
own cynicism. Because if we cant see the
glass as half full, how are we going to
affect change? So my job as a musician is
to bring people together in a room for one
