Eleven Big Bands That Have Albums Coming – Some Sooner Than Later

Last year the emo gods smiled upon us and brought us new music from Paramore . And things felt right in the world ( at least for a few hours ). With a massive world tour and their first new album in nearly six years , 2023 is shaping up to be a huge year for the band . Based on the singles “ The News ” and the title track , the upcoming album will be a continuation of the genre-blurring sound they introduced on 2017 ’ s After Laughter . And we are here for it .
GORILLAZ Cracker Island ( 2 / 24 ) Cracker Island , the eighth album from Gorillaz , picks up where their previous effort Song Machine , Season One : Strange Timez left off : more Damon Albarn-crafted bops with a slew of guest stars . Albarn enlists the help of some familiar collaborators and some new faces , including Bootie Brown , Tame Impala , Beck , Bad Bunny , and Stevie Nicks . With a star-studded cast and fresh lore that involves the band forming the cult , it ’ s sure to be another wicked , fun record .
DEPECHE MODE Memento Mori ( 3 / 17 )
The passing of co-founding Depeche Mode member Andy Fletcher left the band ’ s future uncertain . He made such an impact on the band spiritually and on the business end it seemed it may be impossible for Martin Gore and Dave Gahan to move forward . It didn ’ t take long to confirm that they would keep going not only with a big world tour but also a new album . Eerily titled ** Memento Mori (“ remember you must die ”), the album was written early in the pandemic and before Fletcher ’ s death . Gore and Gahan decided to finish the album as a dedication to Fletcher , who “ would have loved this record ,” according to Gore .
FALL OUT BOY So Much ( for ) Stardust ( 2 / 24 )
With a surprise , intimate club show at Metro last month , Fall Out Boy has mastered the art of an album tease . Hard to believe a suburban punk and emo band that performed at
Fireside Bowl a decade ago would reach the heights of FOB , but here they are . Co-founding guitarist Joe Trohman has announced a temporary sabbatical from the band to focus on his mental health . The new single “ Love From The Other Side ” shows the band continuing on a course of high energy , harmony-filled pop punk .
METALLICA , 72 Seasons ( 4 / 14 )
With a recent two-year tour announcement and two new classic thrash singles including “ Screaming Suicide ,” the band is promising music that harkens back to their Kill Em All roots . 72 Seasons is a concept album as a ” concept that we were told ' who we are ' by our parents ,” according to frontman James Hetfield . “ A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are . I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today . Much of our adult experience is a reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences . Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry .”

The demise of the classic Blink-182 lineup ( Mark , Tom , and Travis ) was unexpectedly ugly and weird . Tom wasn ’ t in the band anymore , but he still was , even though he wasn ’ t . And though the band soldiered on with Alkaline Trio ’ s Matt Skiba , let ’ s face it , it wasn ’ t the same . Last year , pop punk hearts swelled around the world when Tom DeLonge rejoined the fold . On top of that , they would not only embark on a massive global tour , but a new album was in the works . Aside from the new single “ Edging ,” we don ’ t have a clue as to what new Blink will hold . Will it be a continuation of the darker , more mature themes they explored on Untitled and Neighborhoods ? Or will it be the return of their silly , bathroom humor ala Enema of the State ? Whatever it is , we ’ re just happy to see this trio reunited . Let ’ s hope it ’ s for good this time .
