Melody returned home and sharpened her skills by playing to crowds on Michigan Avenue while earning a Marketing degree at Columbia College in 2011 . It was her marketing know how that finally got the attention of Rosa ’ s Blues Lounge owner Tony Manguillo . She sent him a YouTube clip of her playing “ Ball and Chain ,” a classic by one of her favorite blues artists , Big Mama Thornton . “ I love her passion , when she sings , it ’ s just how I would sing ,” she explained .

After earning a regular Thursday night slot at Rosa ’ s , offers started rolling in , from Buddy Guy ’ s to Australia ’ s Byron Bluesfest in April . After over a decade of trying to get regular shows , she takes none of her success for granted . Melody fills her music and her shows with her lived experiences , urging listeners to greater awareness . “ Sharing my stories and connecting with people through those stories gives me hope .”
