Melody returned home and sharpened her skills by playing to crowds on Michigan Avenue while earning a Marketing degree at Columbia College in 2011. It was her marketing know how that finally got the attention of Rosa’ s Blues Lounge owner Tony Manguillo. She sent him a YouTube clip of her playing“ Ball and Chain,” a classic by one of her favorite blues artists, Big Mama Thornton.“ I love her passion, when she sings, it’ s just how I would sing,” she explained.

After earning a regular Thursday night slot at Rosa’ s, offers started rolling in, from Buddy Guy’ s to Australia’ s Byron Bluesfest in April. After over a decade of trying to get regular shows, she takes none of her success for granted. Melody fills her music and her shows with her lived experiences, urging listeners to greater awareness.“ Sharing my stories and connecting with people through those stories gives me hope.”
