Mary Poppins Returns Directed by Rob Marshall Rated: PG •December 19 Decades after meeting the Banks family, the mysterious and magical Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) returns to Depression-era London to visit Jane (Emily Mortimer) and her brother Michael (Ben Whishaw), a father of three who has recently suffered a family tragedy. Mary helps them to redis- cover the joy they knew as children in this musical/fantasy sequel to the original 1964 film. The fantastic cast also includes Dick Van Dyke (the only cast member returning from the original movie), Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, Angela Lansbury, Colin Firth, and David Warner. Aquaman Directed by James Wan Rated: PG-13 •December 21 The DC Comics origin story of Aquaman (Jason Momoa), the reluctant ruler of Atlantis and King of the Seven Seas caught between the surface world and Atlanteans who want to revolt. He possesses super- human strength, the ability to manipulate California beach town junkyard. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), almost 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee and befriends him. She quickly learns that this is no ordinary yellow Volkswagen. The two soon find themselves hunted by a government agency known as Sector 7, led by Agent Burns (John Cena), in this prequel to 2007’s original Transformers film. Welcome to Marwen Directed by Robert Zemeckis Rated: PG -13 •December 21 A devastating attack shatters the life of Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carrell) and wipes out all of his memories. As a means of aid- ing in his recovery, he begins the therapeu- tic journey of constructing a miniature World War II village called Marwencol in his backyard. Mark meticulously creates an incredible art installation that pays homage to the strongest women he knows, and through his fantasy world, he gains the strength to triumph in the real world. The film also stars Leslie Mann, Eiza Gonzalez, Diane Kruger, Gwendoline Christie, and Siobhan Williams. Destroyer Directed by Karyn Kusama Rated: R •December 25 In the 1990s, Erin Bell (Nicole Kidman) and her partner, Chris (Sebastien Stan), went undercover to infiltrate a gang lead by bank-robber Silas (Toby Kebbell) in the California desert -- with tragic results. After Silas re-surfaces, the now burned-out LAPD detective must work her way back through the remaining members of the gang while confronting her own demons in her hunt for vengeance.
