The music has been treated with reverence to match the packaging. Unreleased tracks include 1967’ s“ Vegetable Man” and instrumental“ In the Beechwoods.” The score for Michelangelo Antonioni’ s 1970 film Zabriskie Point has been restored with inclusion of unused pieces. 1971’ s Meddle is included in Blu-ray quality audio and surround mixes. Volumes 1 – 6 will be available separately in 2017, but Volume 7 Continu / ation will remain an exclusive. Continu / ation’ s audio CD includes BBC sessions and live versions of“ Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun,”“ Jugband Blues,” epic“ Echoes” and more. Video features include clips for“ Corporal Clegg” and“ Arnold Layne,” interviews, concert footage of“ Atom Heart Mother” with brass ensemble, a 35-minute Amsterdam set, and feature films The Committee, More, and La Vallée. Sony has also released high-quality single-album vinyl reissues of albums including 1970’ s Atom Heart Mother, 1971’ s Meddle and 1972’ s Obscured by Clouds on the Pink Floyd Records imprint. Artwork and platters exhibit the premium quality associated with Pink Floyd as one of rock’ s most prestigious and enduring bands. Meddle’ s“ One of These Days” and“ Echoes” make headphone listening a glorious, out-ofbody experience.

It’ s always great when magical moments in music are made in one’ s backyard. And in the case of highly regarded“ rock bassist’ s bassist” Mike Watt, it was the stage of the( Cabaret) Metro on a May evening some 21 years ago when Watt – in the midst of musical career recovery following the sudden death of best friend and partner in seminal band Minutemen D. Boon – touched down on his first solo tour in support of his recently released CD debut ball-hog or tugboat. Fittingly, Watt was supported( both as opening act and back-up bandmates) by musician friends at similar career crossroads: post Nirvana and nascent Foo Fighters Dave Grohl, Pat Smear and( then Sunny Day R. E.) William Goldsmith along with“ on hiatus” Pearl Jammer and along-for-the-ride
Hovercraft-er Eddy Vedder. Yet, even as somewhat unevenly captured / recovered, ring spiel tour‘ 95 captures this searing show, with( in particular) standout live takes from Watt’ s solo disc such as the Vedder-led“ Against the‘ 70s,” Pat Smears’ slide on“ Big Train” and the Grohl guitarled“ Chinese Fire Drill’; and don ' t overlook the Watt ' s autobiographical“ Piss- Bottle Man.” Top it off with Watt ' s cover of Blue Oyster Cult’ s“ The Red and the Black” and an eccentric take on Madonna’ s“ Secret Garden” and, well, revel in the punk / alt-rock musical milestone set firmly in Chicago history books.
