QUEENSRŸCHE ower / prog metal innovators, Queensrÿche, are one of the first bands to capture this style of metal before most of their peers eventually caught on. Queensrÿche’ s 1983 self-titled EP remains one of metal’ s most significant EPs ever recorded and still holds up well 43 years later. Throughout the late eighties and early nineties, Queensrÿche were unstoppable, largely due to the massive success of the iconic albums 1988’ s Operation: Mindcrime and 1990’ s Empire. Memorable tracks such as“ Best I Can,”“ Revolution Calling,”“ I Don’ t Believe in Love,”“ Jet City Woman,”“ Silent Lucidity,” and“ Empire” are exceptional calling cards to Queensrÿche’ s success at that time. However, the rest of the’ 90s through the 2000s weren’ t the most decorated period for metal in general, and as a result, Queensrÿche segued through several musical stages. On Queensrÿche’ s 16th studio album, 2022’ s Digital Noise Alliance( DNA) the album’ s 11 tracks echo the classic early-era Queensrÿche sound with a sharp, modern edge. The band continues the path it displayed on its three previous LaTorre-led albums by delivering the band’ s early-era essence that longtime fans clamor for.
This current tour involves a date at the historic Arcada Theatre in St. Charles on September 3, a venue Queensrÿche is very familiar with. Kelley Simms has the story.
06 REMEMBERING SHAUN GLASS
Local journeyman musician, Shaun Glass( Terminal Death, Sindrome, Broken Hope, SOIL, Dirge Within, The Bloodline, Repentance), was a heavy metal encyclopedia of knowledge, and his perseverance within the local metal scene throughout fourplus decades will sorely be missed after his recent passing. On May 31, 2026, Glass suffered a stroke after he spent nearly a month before passing away on July 1 at the age of 57. The numerous bands Glass formed and played in helped shape and develop the Chicago metal scene significantly. Glass’ s knack for songwriting and his craftsmanship for creating memorable riffs were second to none, along with being a great husband and father. Kelley Simms as our remembrance.
