BASTILLE
Bastille's intriguing and handsome co-founder
Dan Smith talked to Tom Lanham about their day
performing at Glastonbury learning about
England's departure from the EU (aka Brexit), his
love of classic films ("I’m just generally a huge and
massive fan. And I just don’t believe in snobbery at
all, in music or in film. And everything’s subjective, of course"), and their new album - three years
in the making, Wild World – the follow-up to massively sucessful Bad Blood.

HELLO MY NAME IS TED
IE and the Nugent family go way back. Many of our younger
readers don’t know that Ted Nugent’s mother, Marion, was
almost as popular in the Chicago area as the Nuge was in the ’80s
due to her advice column, Ma Nugent’s Mail. She had an eightyear run starting in 1980 that concluded when she succumbed to
cancer in 1988. Born in Detroit, Nugent and his family moved to
Hoffman Estates in 1965 when Ted was a teenager. They also took
up residence in Palatine for a bit. While attending St. Viator High
School in Arlington Heights, Nugent formed the psychedelic
rock pioneers, The Amboy Dukes. The young rockers slugged it
out on stage at The Cellar (a teen dance club) in Arlington
Heights for a time during the mid-'60s, leading the way to Nuge's
fame as a guitar hero he is today. Kelley Simms talked to Ted.

SOUL ASYLUM'S DAVE PIRNER
Sweet Home
Although he’s been residing in New Orleans for the past 15 years,
Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner is still closely tied to his old
hometown of Minneapolis. But he didn’t realize just how deep those
roots ran until quite recently, when the Paisley Park vaults of late
R&B legend Prince were opened to reportedly reveal – among countless other archived recordings – not one -- but four Prince/Pirner collaborations, labeled PXP (hardcore), P2P (slow jam), PnP242 (industrial), and the Chuck Berry tribute PP. Trouble is, the singer sighs, “I
have no idea what all that is – I just hope I get to hear it some day.”
Tom Lanham talked to Pirner.
