Continued from page 32 26 tunes of reverential rollicking, but his ongoing zeal for performing (even at 66) is equally apparent. 9 - Andy Argyrakis CAGE THE GODS Badlands (The End) What kind of chicks are these leather-clad revivers of good-ol' hard rock trying to seduce? The kind who like being called "little woman," being dragged "back to hell," and being reminded that since those who gave them what they want find them "so f--king beautiful", they should simply "handle it." And that's just Track One (of 13). In short, boilerplate bad-boy misogyny lives or at least refuses to go gentle into that good night. Call it the daze of Guns 'N Roses. No, the title cut isn't a Springsteen cover. (Would that it were.) No, "Falling" isn't a LeBlanc & Cover cover. (Ditto.) There has been but one mainstay throughout Heep’s long, storied career- guitarist and founding member, Mick Box. “Speed Of Sound” shows Shaw is a great fit as their vocalist, as is Phil Lanzon, whose unmistakable Hammond B3 organ echoes the signature sound of original keyboardist, Ken Hensley. Throughout Outsider, particularly on “One Minute,” Heep’s signature vocal harmonies set them apart from their peers. Here's hoping Uriah Heep continues to soldier on. Though their place in history is already safely assured, the galloping title track alone proves there’s still a lot of life left in these seasoned veterans. -Tim Shockley 8 THE FLOCK Heaven Bound (Purple Pyramid/Cleopatra) Heaven Bound should please audio time travelers looking for the “lost” fourth album from Chicago’s most adventurous ’60s band, the Flock. Original members Fred Glickstein, Jerry Smith and Ron Karpman find their way onto this new CD alongside a parcel of players from a later incarnation as Strategic Ear Command. Comprised mostly of songs written in the mid- to late-’70s, driving force Glickstein steers his troops back into Cage The Gods CARLENE CARTER Carter Girl Plenty o New & fUs ed VINYL Your Import Rock Specialty Store!
