COVER STORY:
DEEP PURPLE
There are certain things in life that will
always remain constant: death, taxes and the
fact that Deep Purple remains one of the most
powerful and enduring hard rock bands of all
time. IE's Bruce Pilato spoke to "Purple's" legendary bassist Roger Glover and discussed
their upcoming tour and the lasting D.P. legacy
that started way back in 1968.

HELLO MY NAME IS TOM
For the first time in 27 years, Thompson Twins' lead singer
Tom Bailey is touring behind the British new wave band's catalogue, which considering his time bouncing between experiential
electronics, sound-system dub and even astronomy projects,
seemed like a day that would never come. Nonetheless, the man
who ruled the mid-'80s with monster hits like "Hold Me Now,"
"Love On Your Side," "In The Name Of Love," "Lies," "Lay Your
Hands On Me," "You Take Me Up" and "Doctor! Doctor!" finally
tapped back into his original muse after prodding from multiple
sources to co-headline this summer's Retro Futura Tour with
longtime pal Howard Jones. Andy Argyrakis has the details.

OK GO
File
Damian Kulash, the 38-year-old frontman for former Chicago
alt-rock outfit OK GO, is a busy man these days. Sure, the band
has a new EP out, Upside Out, on its own Paracadute imprint,
with a full album called Hungry Ghosts following this fall. Kulash
is also happy that the band "doesn't have to live their lives by old
industry rules," he says. "You make a song, and it turns into an
album, then that turns into a bunch of videos, and then it turns
into a tour. All of these different areas that we're able to chase our
ideas in are so gratifying to me." IE's Tom Lanham has the story.
