Continued from page 8 will likely be enticed by a bonus album of outtakes. Rarities include the undercooked lust of“ Sugar on My Tongue.” The psychedelic postpunk song“ I Wish You Wouldn’ t Say That” features a more compelling lyric and a gradually unhinged delivery carried along swirling guitars and marimba.“ I had some friends, but I want more,” sings Byrne during the agitated“ I Want to Live.” Weymouth plays percolating bass while Harrison plays lounge-style electric piano during“ I Feel it in My Heart.” Alternative takes include passes through“ Psycho Killer” with different lyrics and prominently featuring avant-garde cellist Arthur Russell. An early take of“ Stay Hungry” forecasts the version appearing on 1978’ s More Songs About Buildings and Food. The set’ s main attraction beyond the original album, however, is a 13-song live set recorded at CBGB for radio broadcast on October 10, 1977. It was Talking Heads’ final performance at the venue that put them on the map, occurring less than a month following 77’ s release. The show begins with a combustive march through“ Love- > Building on Fire.” The dire pulse of“ Psycho Killer” stretches to six minutes with an extended freak-out ending, and the band concludes with“ Stay Hungry.” A book of new essays by the band and four 7” jukebox singles complete the package.
