COVER STORY:
DREAMCAR
The surprise supergroup that No Doubt's Tony
Kanal quietly put together over the past three
years, features himself on bass, plus fellow No
Doubt members Adrian Young on drums and key-
boardist/guitarist Tom Dumont and the unexpect-
ed addition of AFI frontman Davey Havok on
vocals? It's everything or nothing, depending on
how you view the synchronicity of daily events, it
appears. Because the Dreamcar debut disc for
Columbia feels as if it was simply fated to
serendipitously coalesce; It’s awash in playful ‘80s
Gothic/New Wave riffs and melodies. Tom
Lanham talked to the head mechanic of Dreamcar,
Kanal.

HELLO MY NAME IS...JOHN
06
John Lydon just published Mr. Rotten’s Songbook – name
checking his former Sex Pistols persona, Johnny Rotten – an
annotated anthology of all of his song lyrics, from the proto-
punk Pistols through to his current, more experimental work
with Public Image Ltd. Each page is augmented by hand-drawn
artwork that helps illustrate the song’s meaning, and every copy
of its limited-edition run of 1,000 is numbered and autographed
by the singer himself. "And since I’m asking people to pay seri-
ous attention to this book, I’m going to give a serious effort.”
Tom Lanham talked to the punk rock legend.

discography to your musical bucket list. Since 1971, Trower
has redefined blues guitar playing. His powerhouse trio
modeled after three-piece bands like the Jimi Hendrix
Experience and Cream influenced thousands of guitar
slingers. Kelley Simms talked to Robin on the eve of his
