Dear Home Office
This letter reflects the thoughts of Chinese migrants which were gathered via interviews and observations as part of a research study designed to capture their experiences of living an undocumented life in the UK . The participants in the study described the letters they received from the UK Home Office as painful and frustrating . These letters dismissed migrants ’ stories , constructed them as criminals , threatened them with deportation and set out their limited rights . Many of the participants in the study had waited years to hear news from the Home Office about the outcome of their applications for asylum or for the right to remain in the UK . Using participants ’ own words weaved together from research interviews , this letter is a response to the Home Office , written from the perspectives of undocumented Chinese migrants .
