IJGA Newsletter: The Oaks November 2018 | Page 2

From Heritage Academy, “Happy Autumn” to our global school family! We have much to be proud of when we tally the many recent academic and golf accomplishments of our remarkable students. At school they are growing in self-awareness, ingenuity, relationship building, and collaborative learning. Project-based learning, critical and creative thinking, synchronized education, and peer collaboration inspire full engagement in class activities and provide students diversity in demonstrating mastery. We witness flourishing talents, student-teacher rapport, and increased responsibility for learning. Each day we celebrate more students surpassing personal bests in their courses and on the golf links. Congratulations to senior Felix Van Kleef, who has committed to play golf for the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Our November “NCAA Letter of Intent Signing Ceremony” will recognize Felix and six other Class of ‘19 seniors who have made NCAA commitments to date. Fall semester is such an exciting time on campus as we assist in finalizing the optimal college match for our talented scholar- athletes. Several other fall activities complement students’ golf training and competitions. Student “community service” leaders will be volunteering for the Island Rec Pumpkin Patch Children’s Festival in October. Student of the Month assemblies, Spirit Days, and NHS Pizza Days highlight the last Wednesday of each month. Classes are enjoying advocacy groups, guest speakers, college rep visits, and field trips. National Honor Society members are starting fundraising for Hilton Head Heroes. Indeed, action and impact describe our busy Heritage/IJGA students this fall! Best regards, Gloria Shoemaker and the Heritage Academy staff 2
