IJGA AT THE XIII COPA YUCATAN,
MEXICO
Gary Gilchrist, Director of Golf at IJGA
Bishops Gate, was presented at the XIII
edition of one of the most important
tournaments in Mexican junior golf, the Copa
Yucatan. Two hundred and fifty players from
7 countries played in this event, which bears
testimony to the partnership of the Mexican
Federation with IJGA to support the
development of Junior Golf in Latin America.
In the Girls 14-18 division, the champion was
Isabel Amezcua, a student from IJGA La
Loma, who had a spectacular performance
shooting 73-66-72 for a total of 5 under par
in 3 rounds. After a bogey-free 66, also the
tournament lowest, she took the lead after

the second round and and by capping with a
72 on her final round, she was able to claim
the title with a 3 shot difference.
In the Boys 14-18 Division, Jose Cristobal
Islas (IJGA La Loma) finished top 5 in a very
competitive field after shooting consistent
rounds of 73-74-72.
This event was also an opportunity for
Gary Gilchrist to share his knowledge with
Mexican Junior golfers of all ages by hosting
two Clinics on Saturday and Sunday.
