SKILL TRANSFER The key to performance is to transfer the skills that have been attained and retained. IJGA uses an intelligent course management system along with a robust mental approach. IJGA coaches create tournament flow by getting the player to focus on the process not the outcome. Golf is a series of processes that require attention and skill. The outcome takes care of itself if this is the focus. If a player’s self-esteem or golf worth is based solely on their score, then they will be frozen by fear and will not develop. Failure is a big part of learn- ing and can be a way to becoming great - by failing and reacting to it in a positive way. So failure must be part of the development. If the focus is outcome based, then failure becomes a negative and the players stops developing. It is important to understand that golf is a learned skill, it is not just for the perceived ‘talented’. The students who are stand-outs at 12-15 are often not the ones who make it as the expectation and outcome mindset stunts their development. Rather it is those on the sidelines developing skills who make it in the end. Feedback/Analysis 36 ADMISSIONS GUIDE
