FRESH PERSPECTIVES – SUMMER INTERNS At a time when many organizations have canceled internships due to COVID-19, IJGA, Bishops Gate is able to keep on keeping on. The unique features of the campus (gated and secure, golf onsite, housing, meals) allows us to safely accept interns. IJGA has a big opportunity when it comes to interns. By developing and working with interns, we can foster growth in an inexperienced individual who could one day become a major player for our academy and the game of golf. That is why we opened our doors to a hand-full of alumni this summer. Our goals were to: • Draw perspective from people outside our immediate team. Bringing in former students who don’t see the academy from the inside every day opened up an opportunity for fresh perspectives. • Enhance our social strategy. It’s no secret that each generation brings with it a greater tech-savvy than the last. IJGA took advantage of the opportunity to involve our interns in our social strategy and execution of digital marketing campaigns. • Develop mentorship opportunities. Many of our student-golfers were eager to connect with these college students, and the alumni were eager to mentor them. The mentoring has enriched our culture as well as the students’ well-being and continued growth. In return, our alumni received housing, meals, full access to the golf facilities, and other compensation. Some of them also earned college credits. It has been a rewarding experience for all involved.
