BISHOPS GATE SHOOTOUT: 7/22 – 7/24
With the summer heat and thunderstorms
beating down on over 35 players, the
Bishops Gate Shootout was not only a
tournament of skill, but one of endurance
and mental strength. The 54 hole WAGR
and Junior Golf Scoreboard ranked
event saw players from around the globe
competing for not only national, but
international rankings.
With strong thunderstorms pummeling the
area on Thursday, play was suspended and
resumed first thing Friday morning. Players
had to complete their second round, and
move right on to the third and final round.
Scores were tight through both the Girls
and Boys Divisions, with the Boys Division
coming down to a playoff.
Peru native Christian Munoz Morales
and Japan’s Liangan Wang faced off in a
playoff to join the WAGR system. Morales
drove the par 4 first hole and drained the
ensuing eagle putt to narrowly edge out
Wang for the title. USA native Nolan Donze
finished in a close third.
German native and University of North
Florida commit Jessie Cai secured her first
win of the summer series by edging out
Japanese student Hibiki Adachi. In a tie for
third were Myanmar student Thin Wai
Khaing and Japan’s One Kashima.
