IJGA ALUMNI, RICHY WERENSKI,
WINS FIRST PGA TOUR EVENT
TRUCKEE, CA – Richy Werenski holed a wedge from the fairway on the par-
4 16th for an eagle and birdied the last hole for a one-point victory over Troy
Merritt in the Barracuda Championship on August 2nd. It was his first career
PGA Tour victory.
“I WASN’T REALLY EXPECTING TO MAKE AN EAGLE ON NO. 16,”
WERENSKI SAID. “AFTER WE JUST BARELY MISSED OUR EAGLE
ON NO. 12, I WAS LIKE, ‘WELL, AT LEAST WE’VE GOT SOME BIRDIE
OPPORTUNITIES AND WE’LL KIND OF JUST DO WHAT WE CAN.’ IT
JUST ALL HAPPENED REALLY QUICK.”
With the win Werenski is now fully exempt through the 2022 season and
has clinched spots in the U.S. Open, Players and Sentry Tournament of
Champions. He also earned the final spot in next week’s PGA Championship.
