Philippines says new oil, gas discovery has commercial quantities

An oil field discovered in central Philippines in 2014 has been found to have commercial quantities of both natural gas and oil that could boost domestic gas supply when existing reserves dry up in six years.Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi signed an agreement with Hong Kong-based China International Mining Petroleum Co Ltd, the service contractor that will develop the Alegria oil field in southern Cebu.

Alegria was found to have an estimated 27.93 million barrels of oil (MMBO), with a possible production recovery of 3.35 MMBO, or 12 percent of total oil in place, the Department of Energy said in a statement.

After 150 years, a breakthrough in understanding the conversion of carbon dioxide to electrofuels

Visualization of a shift from air-polluting economy based on fossil fuels to clean economy based on renewable energy, which is facilitated by electrocatalytic conversion of abundant CO2 to fuels and other useful chemicals. The bottleneck of this reaction is activation of a linear CO2 molecule to adsorbed carboxylate CO2- with a chair-like geometry. Recent research in electrocatalytic CO2 conversion points the way to using CO2 as a feedstock and renewable electricity as an energy supply for the synthesis of different types of fuel and value-added chemicals such as ethylene, ethanol, and propane.
