The ARM only applies to financial statement audits 2. The natures of assurance engagements in general are so many facetted that a model covering them all would have to be so abstract, that it would lose its meaning. The first argument has been refuted effectively. The International Framework for Assurance Engagements, which is the theoretical base for ISA, may have a tendency to exemplify the ARM by means of the financial statement audit. Having said that, the term “assurance engagement” is expressed using the general terms “outcome”, “subject matter”, and “criteria”. We have used these general terms to rid the ARM of its reference to the financial statement audit.
