Sunnah Revival
Bukhari, Volume 6, Number 4)
On many occasions our beloved Prophet has warned
us about treatment of our neighbours and particularly
how grave it is of a sin harming our neighbours. The
importance placed on such ill treatments serves to
show us that living among others in harmony, peace,
mutual love, kindness and respect is more noble and
valuable in the sight of Allah than disregarding the
rights of others, simply to fulfil our own desires. By
harming our neighbours we are also harming our
own selves in the process, by causing our deeds to
be negatively affected. How can we claim to be good
practicing Muslims yet at the same time our own
companions are not safe from the words that leave our
mouths nor from the hurtful actions of or limbs?
Narrated Abu Shuraih: The Prophet said, “By
Allah, he does not believe! By Allah, he does

not believe! By Allah, he does not believe!” It
was said, “Who is that, O Allah’s Apostle?” He
said, “That person whose neighbor does not
feel safe from his evil.” – (Sahih Al-Bukhari,
Volume 8, Number 45)
Our neighbours are supposed to be our friends and the
ones who receive goodness from us, so let us not forget
the teachings of our beloved Messenger with regards to
them and the great responsibilities that we have. Great
rewards await us in following the Guidance of Allah
and His Messenger in every aspect of life – being a
kind, merciful, loving neighbour is just another way we
can make our scales of good deeds heavy on The Day,
when it would matter the most.
