Carpet Pythons Feeding. Reductions and modifications of the snake skull during evolution have led to their ability to swallow massive prey items. Here, some of Brisbane’s local Carpet Pythons (Morelia spilota) are seen consuming various large prey items, including: A. a large Brushtail Possum; B. a domestic cat; C. a chicken; D. & E. a Ringtail Possum (note the difference in angle of the F. dentary bones in the lower jaw), and; a tennis ball!
