had been recommended for herping.
We saw a five-foot Mulga Snake
crossing the road, and also found a
Little Spotted Snake (Suta punctata)
by the side of road on a very dark
night that ended relatively early.
Herp count:
Day 7.
Our last day in The Alice was spent
relaxing. We thought we would give
the area to the north another try at
night, but didn’t see any herps.
Central Australia is an awesome
place – I could happily live there –
and as far as herping is concerned it
is certainly close to the top of my
list. I will definitely be returning, as
there a number of species that I have
not yet ticked off, including
Centralian Carpet Pythons (Morelia
spilota bredli). Desert Death Adders
(Acanthophis pyrrhus) would be a
cool find, too.
1. Sand monitor (Varanus gouldii).
2. Centralian Tree Frog (Litoria gilleni).
3. Lo and behold, we also found a Thorny
Devil (Moloch horridus).
