Myths & Misconceptions of Medical Cannabis
David Bearman, MD Executive VP, AACM
The Hemp Foundation (THF) helped organise the Auckland
event "Myths & Misconceptions..." for Dr David Bearman. AUT
(Auckland University of Technology and the NZ Medicinal
Cannabis Council came on board as co-sponsors, and we
nearly filled a 220 seat lecture theatre with a broad selection
of scientists, medical professionals, patients, hempsters, and
citizens.
On the back of this we reached out to UIC Australia, with
the intention of bringing their speakers to New Zealand
next year. Any businesses or individuals who wish to
assist with sponsoring this, please contact us through
thehempfoundation.org.nz Perhaps we could combo with
next years hemp summit?
General education outreach continues with Rotary, Anglican
churches, and Catholic organisations proving receptive to the
ethical, environmental, medical, and economic arguments for
hemp. Meetings have been held with government scientists,
and their understanding of the field is growing encouragingly.
Work on getting our High school units in biology, social
sciences and history into schools is going forward. Stigma
continues to be an issue, but at least one school is keen to
implement them once additional work is done.
THF has now been running an education stall at the Grey
Lynn markets for three months, and sales of hemp seed and
oil are increasing as the area slowly gets used to the idea of
'cannabis' being normal. If anyone has any hemp products
that they would like to have sold on behalf, please contact us
through the website. q
