Jo Godden is the founder of RubyMoon a not-for-profit swimwear and activewear business with positive impact on people and planet. RubyMoon uses discarded drift fishing nets, recycled into nylon "Gym To Swim" clothing, with 42% less carbon emissions. By investing 100% of their profits in business loans for women living in poverty, financial independence is allowed, leading women and their families to a brighter future.

“I set up RubyMoon to prove that a clothing business can have positive impact on people and our planet. Currently the fashion industry is degrading our natural environment and the work conditions of millions of women trapped in modern slavery. We simply cannot go on as we are, we must consume less but of higher quality, which is why we focus on durability and circular economy principles of designing for re-use. Once we all recognise we need to pay for better products and services we can start to move forward into a more equal world of respect for nature and others.

We collaborate with LendwithCare to provide loans and business training to female entrepreneurs, helping them to break generational cycles of poverty and so far we have invested in over 1000 women and their families. Currently, we are focusing on a new superior textile fibre, made from waste nylon that will solve a number of environmental and performance problems. Swimmers, surfers, paddlers and others who participate in water sports are at the forefront of this movement - they see first-hand the deterioration of water quality - and they are looking for better 'kit', that makes those activities guilt free and therefore so much more enjoyable. By investing in better made, recycled clothing we are all contributing through our leisure activities to a cleaner environment, healthier economy and increased physical wellbeing.”
