creating a better world

through collaboration

The travel industry is at a crossroads: it can embed purpose and sustainability into business operations, or it can watch its assets crumble under environmental and social exploitation. The Long Run believes that collaboration is a fundamental part of the former. The industry must put aside competition and work together to reach the next level of positive impact. The global membership organisation brings together the travel industry’s most committed sustainable minds to share best practice and raise standards for everyone.

Here are five ground-breaking Long Run member initiatives to inspire a global stage:

Monitoring wildlife with Artificial Intelligence with House in the Wild, Kenya

House in the Wild’s owners established the 6000-acre Enonkishu Conservancy to regenerate biodiversity in a way that is socially, economically and environmentally viable. Last year, conservation efforts were given a pioneering lease of life by working with SnapshotSafari. This platform allows conservationists to upload images to a website equipped with AI to identify and count species. Any species not identified are presented to citizen scientists across the world to help identify the animals. Camera traps have been placed every 2.5km in Enonkishu, making it likely that even the most elusive species will be tracked.
