FUTURE RIDES
Vicious valkyrie
Aston Martin's F1 Inspired Beast
This vicious beast is the 2019 Aston Martin Valkyrie and it is
an engineering marvel. The light weight body houses an F1
inspired 6.5 litre V12 that is one of the most powerful engines
on the market. Thanks to Aston Martin’s partnership with
renowned engine builder Cosworth, the Valkyrie’s engine
draws on the best F1 tech available. It produces 746kW and
740Nm and at its peak, revs tops 11,100rpm — or about double
the redline of the average car and far superior to any non-turbo
car engine that meets modern emissions standards. Engine
parts were custom machined to reduce weight and increase
strength. The result is a V12 engine that weighs just 206kgs.
In the Valkyrie, unlike any other car on the road, the engine is
effectively part of the structure. Without the V12 there would be
nothing to join the front and rear assemblies. For all its outputs,
the Valkyrie’s engine won’t be operating alone. Aston Martin
will couple the petrol engine with an electric motor to boost
power. From a design perspective, in many ways, the Valkyrie
is more advanced than an F1 car. It has active aerodynamics
and active suspension including variable ride height, features
which are not permitted in F1 cars. The high nose and big front
wing hover above the tarmac and wide aero tunnels channel
air through the car’s smooth underside. From the rear, two
vast underbody venturi tunnels incorporate a rear diffuser
with mechanicals suspended from a smooth-surfaced pod in
the middle. It’s an F1 car with a slither of a sports car body. It’s
low, small and very sleek. There will only be 150 cars built and
they will come in at a price tag of almost AU$4,500,000. Even
at this price, buyers are lining up with F1 driver, Daniel Riccardo
being one of many high profile individuals on the waiting list.
