Sharing Stories of Caring

What does it mean when we as AOPS educators say Achievement flourishes in a caring community ?
At first glance , one could read this statement as saying that a caring community is a means to the end of achievement . But as we know in our work as Catholic educators , this couldn ’ t be further from the truth . Creating and nourishing a caring community , both within our walls and throughout the wider world , is core to our values and our mission .
In this edition of Ignite , we ’ ll find out what caring community means for our teachers , our students , and the people they ’ re impacting every day .
For instance , how does a teacher use local graffiti to help children understand the history of art ? What happens when a high school allows the student body to craft its own curriculum ? How can concerned students help put an end to animal abuse ? And what is it about the community inside our schools that makes teachers proud to be part of AOPS ?
I hope you will enjoy the answers ; I know I certainly have .
Peace and all good things ,
Christopher Mominey Chief Operating Officer and Secretary for Catholic Education
