Michele A Cone Effective Pain Management ... 4 (Continued from page 4) How do you hope your project might unfold in the months and years ahead and what impact do you hope it will have on the field at large? My project is in the beginning stages. The first task was to call together a group of individuals that could assist with the development of the project. This group will also be responsible for sustaining the project. This group (Restorative Nursing Group) has been established and includes the Assistant Director of Nursing, MDS/Quality Assurance Nurse, Senior House Manager and the Director of Therapy Services. The Restorative Nursing Group has developed the job description. Other tasks that need to be completed include development of programs, a training module for the programs which both the Restorative Nursing Aide and Senior House Manager and then identification of residents that would benefit from the Restorative Nursing program. We will use the Quality Measures as a way of identification of residents that would benefit from the program. The impact I hope my program has on the field at large is the use of Certified Nurses Aides to assist with effective pain management. This program fosters growth for the Certified Nurses Aides by providing a unique opportunity for them to be part of a program that enhances the quality of life for our residents. This program also provides them with an opportunity to be a leader in our organization. 5 How has the action learning process in the context of the Leadership Academy experience contributed to your growth as a leader? The action learning process has contributed to my growth by affirming my transformational leadership style. This has lead to me being more confident in my role as Director of Nursing. Through this confidence I have learned to lead by example, set realistic expectations of myself and to “pick my battles”. I believe that if you manage your 4 energies: Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual you can accomplish any change that you set out to make in both your personal and professional lives. Ignite Your Leadership Flame! LeadingAge New York launched the New York-based Leadership Academy in June of 2013. This transformational leadership platform is designed to foster growth and relationships among our current and next generations of leaders within New York’s non-profit providers of care, housing and service to seniors. The program is modeled on national and other state leadership programs — most designed by consultant Michele Holleran — but focuses on topics of interest to New York members. Applications for the 2017-18 Class are available now. For more information, go to leadingageny.org under Members. There you will find an Ignite Your Flame graphic.
