our historic educational system. To me, it felt right that
this change should come from here.”
Faith in the Future has already begun to benefit from
Horstmann Hannan’s extensive work with nonprofits.
Decades of industry experience have shown her how to
implement processes and heighten accountability —
without losing sight of the larger mission.
“In nonprofits, if there’s no mission, there’s no margin,”
she says. “There are some new ways of doing things,
but keeping our focus on our mission is what will make
us successful. It’s the greatest challenge as well as the
greatest opportunity.”
One way she plans to do that, Horstmann Hannan says,
is to keep the process as collaborative as possible by
actively listening and learning. And in that regard, there
has been one fundamental difference between her time
at Faith in the Future and her time in banking.
“The world I come from sometimes lacked a level of
respect for the individual,” Horstmann Hannan says.
“But I see it here. Everyone has been warm, welcoming,
and 100% engaged with our mission — and that’s a
wonderful foundation to build upon.”
