We all live in our own world , seeing life from an unique viewpoint . However , for our personal development and for society as a whole we need to develop a sense of empathy - a seeking to feel and understand other people ’ s experiences and perspectives – a putting of yourself in someone else ’ s shoes . We may all experience transient sympathy for someone else ’ s predicament , but true empathy is an active seeking and concern for others . How can we develop it and how important is empathy to the smooth running of society ?
