Coronary bypass surgery and the use of stents was invented in the 1960s . Dr . Christiaan Barnard performed the first human-tohuman heart transplant in 1967 ; the patient lasted 18 days . The first artificial heart wasn ’ t to become available until the 1980s .
The first node is connected on ARPAnet , predecessor to the Internet .

1970s

Cashpoints ( ATM ’ s ) began in 1967 , but they took off in the 1970s after the introduction of magnetic strip swipe cards . If you think that cash machines are a strange thing to include , imagine what it was like to live in a time before 24 hour access to money . Access to cash involved a visit to the bank during the day , or you wrote a cheque or signed over a postal order . Debit cards , credit cards , contactless payment , cashback in shops , online shopping all still to come .
Pocket calculators come as standard on mobile phones these days but personal pocket calculators weren ’ t invented until the 1970s .
