Biology is the scientific study of life and living organisms. The course aims to develop knowledge and understanding of key concepts, and the application of it to a variety of contexts, the ability to analyze and evaluate data, development of experimental skills and an appreciation for life and the marvels we find in the natural world. We aim to motivate, inspire and challenge all our students. Studying Biology provides an excellent base for further learning at A level. The department sets high expectations to promote the highest outcomes!

In IGCSE Biology a variety of topics are studied, including:

Cells and Tissues

Plant nutrition and transport

Digestion and mammalian transport

Genetics and inheritance

Ecosystems and ecology

Human impact on the environment

There is no coursework in IGCSE Biology but you will be assessed on your knowledge of practical

techniques in the examination. We carry out a wide range of experiments and you will have opportunities to carry out research, design experiments, create models and analyze data. Time is given to ensure students develop attributes such as problem solving, working collaboratively and critical thinking. There are two examinations to be taken at the end of the course.
