Sky-high demand for candidates has led employers to reconsider what it means to be a ‘ team ’. The pandemic ’ s remote work experiment opened huge new possibilities , but in 2021 employers have shown resolute commitment to offices too .
ON-SITE The five-day office week has vanished , representing a monumental shift in how we work . Recruiting for a fully on-site role now would prove near impossible – no amount of free breakfast or table football could beat a longer lie in ! One exception to the rule is induction training ; many employers expect 2-4 weeks of attendance to settle in .
HYBRID Virtually everyone in gaming now works a combination of in-office and remote days . Shared workspaces are still seen as vitally important for company culture and innovation . Policies differ – and some offer tiered flexibility by seniority – but generally 2-3 days on-site attendance is standard . ‘ On-site ’ generally means ‘ in any company office ’, expanding opportunities for those wishing to relocate or return home .
North America
Evolving hard and fast , the US and Canadian gaming markets have an insatiable appetite for talent . Major financial investment translated into record-high recruitment demand in 2021 , spiking particularly high on the US East Coast . Consensus has determined that hybrid working is here to stay , but this model still limits talent searches to defined localities . Employers are increasingly turning away from land-based experience and towards broader digital or ecommerce credentials . In 2022 , surging demand may settle somewhat , but talent will remain a major challenge .

REMOTE Outside of tech , only a handful of roles ( predominantly in sales ) are 100 % remote . In tech , though , 40 % work fully remote ; a figure that shows how far employers have had to flex to candidates ’ demands . Remote tech vacancies have risen by a factor of 7x year-on-year , and pay rates match or even exceed on-site hires . Those employing staff in multiple locations would be wise to explore the many platforms that have sprung up to minimise headaches .
