RAWA: CRACKS
IN THE FOUNDATION
Proponents of the ill-fated bill are beginning to stumble with conflicting and
flawed arguments, argues leading gaming consultant and iGaming Business
North America section editor, Melissa Blau.
There is the age old adage that a zealot with
a cause is a dangerous thing. What the adage
fails to identify is a much more dangerous
premise, namely the damage that zealot
could achieve if they are equipped with
billions of dollars and willing to fund any
politician who will listen, even bend their
beliefs for financial contribution. This could
not be truer when it comes to the crusade
financed by Sheldon Adelson in his pursuit
of the Restoration of America’s Wire Act
(RAWA, H.R 707), a bill intended to place a
federal ban on all forms of online gambling,
while conveniently protecting Adelson’s
billion-dollar land-based gambling empire
throughout the world.
