And digital gaming in Sweden accounts for 26% of all gaming in the country, the majority of which is digital casino roulette according to a study published in 2011 by the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (RIIE) based in Stockholm. The research was submitted to the Swedish government with the aim of recognising online gambling’s growing contribution to the Swedish economy. It showed that 77% of men responded that they gamble “very often”, a figure which rose by 4% over the two-year period of interviewing. The Swedish National Institute of Public Health’s research was based on 6,000 interviews performed between 2008 and 2010, with respondents surveyed twice each with one-year intervals. State-owned gambling company Svenska Spel operates the country’s licences for betting at sporting events and greyhound racing, the operation of gaming machines and the organisation of lotteries. Declining revenues continued for the operator in first half 2015 which blamed competition from unregulated gaming as the main factor.
