NEVADA In October 2022 , the ETAC voted to recommend amendments to Regulation 22.1201 , the NGCB ’ s regulation overseeing race books and sports pools which adds a section on esports .
Review-Journal that the amendments will more likely only kickstart more interest in esports .
According to Kornegay , esports betting wouldn ’ t “ blow the doors off ” but instead “ slowly accumulate here and there ” given the volume of sports betting that is available year-round .
Abarbanel made a similar comment , noting that it ’ s not likely “ changing a regulation like this will immediately make the whole world interested in betting on esports ”.

The Garden State made its own strides in October 2022 , filing a bill to reclassify esports under the definition of internet gaming ( gambling ), as opposed to a retail-casino-tied online offering .
If approved by the New Jersey Wagering Committee , the new piece of legislation , known as S2986 , would consider esports as its own separate betting option , meaning that esports betting will be able to exist separately from New Jersey ’ s brick-and-mortar casinos , which are currently limited to five online permits .
The NJ Wagering Committee has until the State Legislative Session ends on 31 December to act .
EUROPE
Meanwhile , in Europe , the European Union passed a landmark resolution on 10 November 2022 that will encourage investment and support the growth of professional talent in the gaming and esports industry .
